Cesar Azpilicueta issues warning to his Chelsea FC team-mates
Cesar Azpilicueta says it is crucial that Chelsea FC secure Champions League football for next season
Cesar Azpilicueta has warned his Chelsea FC team-mates that they must “make sure” they are in the Champions League next season.
The Blues suffered another damaging blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four this season when they slumped to a disappointing 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park at the weekend.
That result left the west London side in sixth place in the table and three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with eight games left to play.
Chelsea FC will be looking to break back into the top four this season after they finished in fifth place last term under Antonio Conte.
The west London side will return to action after the international break when they take on Cardiff City away from home on Sunday 31 March.
And Azpilicueta has spoken of his frustration at Chelsea FC’s recent disappointing dip in form.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Azpilicueta said: “A couple of weeks ago we were in a better position than we are now, and it’s a pity we couldn’t keep the wins away from home.
“In the last five away games we have lost four, and we weren’t able to win the last home game either, so from the last six points we have got only one.
“It’s difficult to be so close to the end of the season and not to get the consistency to win back-to-back games, and be in a Champions League spot.
“Now it’s time to learn and resolve the mistakes we are making because there are two months to go, eight games, and we have to make sure we are in the Champions League next season.”
Chelsea FC are looking to break back into the top four this season as they bid to play in the Champions League next term.
The Blues could still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League this term, with Chelsea FC set to take on Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals next month.
