Jose Mourinho: What my Chelsea FC friends have told me about Kepa
Jose Mourinho has his say about Kepa's situation at Chelsea FC
Jose Mourinho says he has been told by his friends at Chelsea FC that Kepa Arrizabalaga is a “great kid” after his League Cup final controversy.
Kepa hit the headlines last month when he seemingly refused to be substituted late on during Chelsea FC’s clash with Manchester City, which the Blues ended up losing on penalties.
Maurizio Sarri was visibly furious by the situation and he dropped the Spanish goalkeeper for the Blues’ clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last week.
However, Kepa won back his place for Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win over Fulham in the top flight on Sunday afternoon.
Mourinho still has plenty of contacts at Chelsea FC from his time at the club, and the former Manchester United boss has explained that he thinks the whole situation in the League Cup final was one big misunderstanding.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Mourinho said: “It looks like it was a misunderstanding where a lot of people were part of it.
“The doctor on the pitch, the goalkeeper coach who wasn’t involved and sat, the emotion of the moment, Maurizio desperate with the reaction.
“There were a lot of factors which made us think ‘wow, this is big’. But it looks like it was more of a misunderstanding with the player.
“I have a few friends at the club, and everybody speaks to me amazingly well about Kepa.
“They say he’s a great kid, they say he’s not capable of this kind of confrontational attitude.
“And when the inside information is positive like that, I believe this kind of information.”
Chelsea FC will return to Europa League action on Thursday night when they host Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of their last 16 clash.
The west London side are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table as they seek a top-four finish in Sarri’s first campaign in charge in west London.
