Maurizio Sarri sends message to Kepa after Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Tottenham
Maurizio Sarri has his say on Kepa Arrizabalaga after Chelsea FC's 2-0 win over Tottenham
Maurizio Sarri has refused to reveal whether Kepa Arrizabalaga would return to the starting line-up for Chelsea FC’s trip to Fulham this weekend.
Willy Caballero started in the place of the Spaniard on Wednesday night as Chelsea FC sealed an impressive 2-0 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge to keep their top-four hopes alive.
Arrizabalaga was dropped by Sarri following the controversy during the League Cup final defeat by Manchester City, when the goalkeeper seemingly refused to be substituted in extra-time.
Caballero produced a solid display to help Chelsea FC claim all three points against Spurs on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.
It now remains to be seen whether Kepa will immediately be returned to the first team or not, but Sarri has hinted that he will not continue to make an example of the goalkeeper.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge, Sarri said: “I think it was the right decision. Kepa made a big mistake. He paid [for it] with the club, and then he had to pay for it with the team. But now it has to stop.
“From tomorrow Kepa will be with us. I don’t know if in the next match he will be on the pitch or not, but in one of the next two for sure. He remains my first choice goalkeeper.
“We cannot kill him. When you are young you can make mistakes. The most important thing is you need to understand very well after every mistake. Now for me the question is closed.”
Chelsea FC currently find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.
They will travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham this weekend as they look to continue their push towards Champions League qualification.
