Maurizio Sarri has hailed Olivier Giroud as a “very important” player for Chelsea FC this season.

The France striker scored three goals and notched up an assist in Chelsea FC’s dominant 5-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Giroud has found his playing time at Stamford Bridge to be somewhat limited this season, and he has only started six games in the Premier League.

However, he has a superb record in the Europa League, having scored nine goals and made two assists in nine games for the Blues.

The 32-year-old will be hoping to hold down a more regular spot in the first team with Chelsea FC between now and the end of the season.

And Blues boss Sarri has spoken of his delight at how Giroud has been performing for Chelsea FC in recent weeks.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Thursday night, Sarri said: “In the last period, every time he has been on the pitch, he was able to play really very well. He has scored nine goals in this competition.

“Olivier is, for us, a very important player. I am really very happy for him and for the hat-trick, and I am really very happy with him.”

Giroud will hope to feature when Chelsea FC return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Everton.

Sarri’s side are currently sixth in the Premier League table as they look to try and break back into the top four before the season is out.
