Sky Sports pundit predicts Chelsea FC v Dynamo Kyiv
Charlie Nicholas believes Chelsea FC will ease to victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to ease to a resounding first-leg win over Dynamo Kyiv in their Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday night.
The Europa League represents an opportunity for Maurizio Sarri to get his hands on some silverware in his first season in charge of the west London side.
The Blues are in a three-way battle to secure fourth spot with Arsenal and Manchester United in what promises to be an enthralling end to the season.
Chelsea FC were 2-1 winners against Fulham in the west London derby last weekend thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Jorginho.
Sarri’s men have won seven of their eight matches in this Europa League campaign and were 5-1 aggregate winners against Malmo in the round of 32.
And former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is tipping Chelsea FC to ease to a 3-0 win against Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of their last-16 clash on Thursday night.
“These teams are dangerous,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“They still have a reputation in Europe to protect, it might not be the most glamorous reputation but they still come and try to prove a point. And some of the players want to put in a performance so Chelsea might buy them!
“Chelsea aren’t playing well, but they got a win at the weekend, they’re still unpredictable. Maurizio Sarri has to keep playing Eden Hazard but he’s been dropping him. I think Chelsea will go all-in, full strength and try to get a decent lead – and I think that’s what’ll happen.”
Chelsea FC won the Europa League when the Blues were last participating in the competition following a 1-0 victory over Benfica in the Amsterdam final in 2013.
Remarkably, the west London side are unbeaten in 11 games in the Europa League, including the last three matches of their victorious 2013 campaign.
This season’s draw with Vidi is the only blotch on their record.
