Paul Merson is backing Chelsea FC to continue their recent resurgence against Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues have managed to recover from a difficult spell under Maurizio Sarri that appeared to threaten the Italian coach’s future at the club.

Chelsea FC lost to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last month in a game that will be remembered for Kepa Arrizabalaga’s refusal to be substituted by the Blues manager.

However, the west London side have won their last three games in all competitions to rebuild some confidence and momentum.

Chelsea FC were 2-0 winners against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge before a 2-1 triumph over Fulham in the west London derby last weekend.

Sarri’s men seized control of their Europa League round of 16 tie after Chelsea FC were resounding 3-0 winners against Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

And former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping Chelsea FC to extend their winning run to four games when Wolves make the trip to west London on Sunday afternoon.

“It’ll be an interesting game,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Chelsea will have played in the Europa League and compare that to Wolves, who will have had a week’s break.

“Chelsea need to win this for the top four, but if you’re not getting in there, you have to make sure you’ve got a nice buffer for the Europa League places and they need to keep in both at the moment.”

Chelsea FC are in sixth place in the Premier League table but have played one game less than Manchester United and Arsenal.

Sarri’s men can hoist themselves above both of their rivals and into fourth place if the Blues manage to win their game in hand.
