Michael Owen states his prediction for Fulham v Chelsea FC
The Liverpool FC legend doesn't expect Chelsea FC to drop any points at Fulham on Sunday afternoon
Michael Owen is tipping Chelsea FC to beat Fulham in the west London derby at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
The Blues will be looking to extend their resurgence under Maurizio Sarri in what has been a controversial week for Chelsea FC.
Sarri appeared to be on the brink at Stamford Bridge following a string of disappointing results against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in the Premier League and the FA Cup.
Chelsea FC dug deep to produce a determined performance against Pep Guardiola’s side in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
The Blues lost to Manchester City on penalties but their improved performance was overshadowed by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s refusal to be substituted in extra-time.
The Spanish shot-stopper was dropped for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night and the move paid dividends as the Blues eased to a 2-0 win over their London rivals.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Chelsea FC to win successive London derbies when the Blues take on Fulham in the west London derby on Sunday afternoon.
“Chelsea are unbeaten in their 17 Premier League games against their west London rivals and I would be surprised if the Cottagers bucked that trend in a game they simply cannot afford to lose given their defeat at St Mary’s midweek,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Chelsea bounced back from their League Cup defeat to beat Spurs in midweek.
“The selection of Willy Caballero in goal for the Blues and the reaction he got from his players in midweek suggested to me that Maurizio Sarri is very much in charge at the Bridge and has the full backing of his squad.”
Chelsea FC are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
The Blues signed Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window.
