Jamie Redknapp is backing Liverpool FC to win their first Premier League title this season, hinting that Manchester City could be distracted by the Champions League.
The Reds started the weekend in pole position ahead of Manchester City’s home clash against Fulham at The Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be in Premier League action little over 24 hours later when the Merseyside outfit host third-placed Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
Liverpool FC haven’t lost a game at Anfield in 36 outings to highlight their dominance in front of their home supporters in the Premier League.
The Reds will take on FC Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 3-1 aggregate win against Bayern Munich thanks to a memorable display at the Allianz Arena.
Manchester City, meanwhile, will face a difficult clash against their domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of their first Champions League crown.
Pep Guardiola hasn’t won the competition since FC Barcelona beat Manchester United at Wembley in 2011.
Former Liverpool FC captain Redknapp is backing the Reds to get over the line in the Premier League title race.
“Yes [Liverpool FC will win the title],” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“City want the Champions League that little bit more. The Premier League is the ultimate prize for Jurgen Klopp and his team”
Liverpool FC have finished as runners up in the title race under Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
