Jurgen Klopp: I could write a book about this Liverpool FC star
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp raves about Virgil van Dijk as a player and a person after Wednesday night's 3-1 win at Bayern Munich
Jurgen Klopp lavished praise on Virgil van Dijk after the Liverpool FC defender was instrumental in Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory at Bayern Munich.
The Netherlands international had to sit out the first leg at Anfield after Van Dijk picked up a yellow card to result in his suspension in their final group game.
Van Dijk was restored to Liverpool FC’s team for the return trip to the Allianz Arena as the Dutch star started alongside Joel Matip in the heart of Klopp’s defence.
Sadio Mane broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a brilliant finish before Matip scored an inadvertent own goal under pressure from Robert Lewandowski.
However, Van Dijk restored Liverpool FC’s narrow lead with a brilliant header to score Liverpool FC’s second away goal before Mane netted for the second time to seal a 3-1 win.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about Van Dijk’s performance in the Champions League clash, Klopp gushed with praise for his club record signing:
“It was brilliant. He was involved in the goal of Bayern as well, so what a night! What can I say?
“I could write a book about his skills, his strength, how much I like him, what a fantastic person he is.
“He is so young, already so mature, really strong, all good. Virg knows he can play better than he did [on Wednesday night]; we can play better than we did.”
The Liverpool FC star’s second-half header was his first goal in the Champions League since his £75m move to Liverpool FC from Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window.
Van Dijk has scored three times and has made an assist in his last four games in all competitions to hit a purple patch in front of goal.
