Martin Keown believes Liverpool FC will go on to win the Premier League title if Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Everton on Sunday.

The Premier League leaders will make the short trip across Stanley Park this weekend in pursuit of a first win at Goodison Park since December 2016.

Liverpool FC were 5-0 winners against Watford at Anfield in midweek to quieten suggestions that the Reds were becoming nervous at a crucial time in the title race.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Virgil van Dijk sealed a comprehensive win as they maintained their one-point advantage at the top.

Manchester City will have the chance to reclaim top spot when the Citizens take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Should the Citizens beat Eddie Howe’s side, Liverpool FC will be under pressure to respond with a big win against their bitter local rivals.

Former Arsenal defender Keown believes this Premier League weekend could prove decisive in the title race.

“For Liverpool, the most important match is Sunday’s Merseyside derby,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “Win, and I believe they will be champions.

“The pivotal match for City will be the Manchester derby at Old Trafford (on 24 April). A resurgent United will be desperate to stop their rivals winning the title and I can see that ending in a draw.

“At this stage, two dropped points could prove costly.”

Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title but have finished in second place on three previous occasions.

The Reds ended up as runners up in 2002, 2009 and 2014 under Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers.

The 18-time English champions have only lost one Premier League game in the current campaign as they chase their first major trophy under Klopp.
