Michael Owen described Sadio Mane’s finishing as “absolutely brilliant” after the Liverpool FC forward scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

The Senegal international has been in excellent form in the Premier League over the past couple of months to help Liverpool FC maintain their title challenge.

Mane had scored eight goals in 10 games in all competitions ahead of Liverpool FC’s trip to Bayern Munich for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The 26-year-old broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when he managed to control Virgil van Dijk’s long pass before Mane outsmarted Manuel Neuer and the Bayern defence to hoist a finish into the net.

Liverpool FC defender Joel Matip netted an inadvertent own goal to level the score before Van Dijk’s header restored the away side’s slender advantage at the Allianz Arena.

Mane found the net for the second time in the final 10 minutes to seal a 3-1 win after Mohamed Salah picked out his attacking colleague with a brilliant pass.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen didn’t hold back in his praise for Mane after Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over Bayern.

“Brilliant. It’s absolutely brilliant,” Owen told BT Sport.

“Everything to do with this goal was… [brilliant] I know Van Dijk played a nice ball but it was a pretty simple ball but everything that was good about this goal was Mane. He pulls really wide to give himself as much space as possible to run in to.

“Yes, the goalkeeper having a bit of a howler or a rush of blood, but Mane was aware to that and he knew to take the ball to one side of him and dink it over. But watch him keeping the width and keeping in as much space as possible.”

Owen added: “It’s a goal of the highest quality and even that (Mane’s turn) the awareness of what’s around and then a little coolness after all that to dink it over the line. It’s a finish of the highest quality.”

Mane has scored 16 times in the Premier League this season to help Liverpool FC challenge Manchester City for the title.
