Jurgen Klopp raves about Sadio Mane’s display in Liverpool FC’s 5-0 win
The Liverpool FC manager was delighted with Sadio Mane's performance in Wednesday night's 5-0 win
Jurgen Klopp was thrilled with Sadio Mane’s performance in Liverpool FC’s 5-0 victory over Watford at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Senegal international endured a difficult 90 minutes in Sunday afternoon’s goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.
The Liverpool FC manager opted to persist with Mane for the visit of the Hornets after Roberto Firmino picked up an injury at the Theatre of Dreams.
The 26-year-old broke the deadlock with a powerful header in the ninth minute after Trent Alexander-Arnold found the African forward with a cross.
Mane netted a back heel in the 20th minute following another cross from Alexander-Arnold to double his tally and extend the Merseyside outfit’s lead.
Divock Origi made it 3-0 in the second half before Virgil van Dijk netted two late goals to win by five clear goals.
The Senegalese forward has scored 14 goals and has made one assist in 26 games in the Premier League this term.
Only Mohamed Salah, Sergio Aguero, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Harry Kane have netted more times than Mane.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about Mane’s performance at Anfield, Klopp said:
“In a new position, the whole game how he played, come on, in that position it was just exceptional.
“It was clear he would help us in all the build-up situations because he is this kind of footballer, but we needed him in the box as well.
“Being there then twice in really good positions – at least twice, and for sure more often.
“It was a very good situation when Mo came from the right side, Foster touched it onto the post end then Sadio was really close to scoring a third one.”
Klopp was delighted with Mane’s strike partner Mo Salah, who provided a threat down the left wing throughout the Premier League clash.
“How Mo played, come on that was unbelievable!” Klopp added. “He was pretty much unplayable tonight. In a game without scoring, I think this kind of performance is exceptional. ”
Mane moved to Liverpool FC in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Reds are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of Manchester City.
