Mario Melchiot has admitted that he has changed his mind about the Premier League title race and says that Manchester City will lift the trophy ahead of Liverpool FC.

Liverpool FC are currently sitting on top of the Premier League table and are a point ahead of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s men have played a game less than the Reds.

The Merseyside outfit are aiming to try and win their first ever trophy under Jurgen Klopp as they look to try and beat the defending champions to the title this term.

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they welcome top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have the chance to move back into top spot when they travel to Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

And former Chelsea FC star Melchiot seems to be convinced that Guardiola’s men will be able to defend their title this season.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Express, Melchiot said: “I thought Liverpool were going to do it

“They had all the capabilities, the distance was so far, I was like ‘this is the team to watch’.

“I like Klopp as a manager, it doesn’t mean I don’t like Pep Guardiola because he plays exceptional football.

“But I just like the motivation and passion that Klopp shows down the touchline, the reality of the game.

“Then they’ve slipped up so I now have to put my eggs with City.

“And the way they’ve answered all the questions and the doubts, I think City might sprint away with this title.”

Liverpool FC will take on FC Porto in the quarter-finals of the Champions League next month as they look to progress to the last four.
