Mo Salah defended by his Liverpool FC team-mate
Virgil van Dijk insists that it is only a matter of time before Mo Salah rediscovers his scoring boots for Liverpool FC
Virgil van Dijk has leapt to the defence of Mohamed Salah following his recent goalless run for Liverpool FC.
The Egypt international is widely regarded as one of European football’s top talents and he won the PFA player of the year award last season following his fine form for Liverpool FC.
Salah has been in solid form this season and he has helped the Merseyside outfit to the top of the Premier League table, scoring 17 goals and making seven assists in 31 outings in the top flight.
However, the 26-year-old has now gone seven games without a goal for Liverpool FC and has only netted once and notched up one assist in his last 10 games for the Merseyside outfit.
But his Liverpool FC team-mate Van Dijk has no doubt that Salah will soon be amongst the goals again as the title race reaches its climax.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Van Dijk said: “Mo is a world-class player.
“People can say all they want but I think all the teams in the Premier League would love to have him in their side. We have him and I think he is playing well.
“The goals will come. That’s something for a striker that is maybe going to be in your head but we tell him every time: you just need to keep working, keep going and you will be fine.
“He’s still scored plenty of goals for us, to be fair, so it’s not like two like me! It is like this.”
Liverpool FC are currently two points clear at the top of the Premier League table after their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.
The Reds have played a game more than Manchester City, who are looking to defend the title they won last season under Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool FC will host Tottenham in the top flight at Anfield on Sunday 31 March.
