Robert Pires is convinced that Liverpool FC have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season ahead of Manchester City.

The Reds have lost their place at the top of the table after their goalless draw at Everton left Manchester City a point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s men with nine games left to play.

The stage is set for an enthralling title race as Liverpool FC and Manchester City battle it out for the top-flight crown this season.

Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title and are still to lift their first major trophy under Klopp after they were beaten in the Champions League final last season.

However, Pires feels that the Reds have what it takes to edge out the defending champions and win the Premier League title this season.

Speaking in an interview with bwin, Pires said: “Liverpool is a great club and I always enjoyed playing at Anfield because the fans are so passionate.

“I can imagine how much it would mean to them to win the Premier League this season and it will be interesting to see if the players can handle that pressure if hope turns into disappointment or expectation depending on how Liverpool perform in the next few weeks.

“I think Liverpool are more than capable of winning the Premier League this season. They have good players and a much bigger squad of quality than they’ve had in previous years.

“Klopp is also one of the best managers in the Premier League so I think they could edge the title over Manchester City.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Burnley in front of their home fans at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Manchester City could be four points clear by that point, as they take on Watford at The Etihad the day before.

Manchester City are looking to defend the Premier League title they won in style last season under Pep Guardiola.
