Phil Thompson predicts where Liverpool FC, Man United will finish
Phil Thompson has his say on where Liverpool FC and Man United will finish this season in the Premier League
Phil Thompson is backing Liverpool FC to win the Premier League this season and is tipping Manchester United to finish fourth.
The Merseyside outfit are looking to try and beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season and they are currently one point behind the Citizens in the table.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are aiming to break back into the top four after their 2-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend allowed the Gunners to move above them in the table as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
Liverpool FC will take on Fulham this weekend knowing that a victory would move them top of the table as Manchester City are in FA Cup action.
Reds legend Thompson is backing the Merseyside outfit to be able to pip Manchester City to the title and win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp this season.
He is also tipping Manchester United to finish fourth ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea FC in fifth and sixth.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Thompson said: “1. Liverpool, 2. Manchester City, 3. Tottenham, 4. Manchester United, 5. Arsenal, 6. Chelsea.
“Chelsea are still a bit fragile, on and off the pitch. It doesn’t seem to be quite right and results are fluctuating, quite similar with Arsenal really. Although they seem to have good results, you cannot rely on them and then they have a couple of bad results. It is how they can capitulate in games.
“Manchester United should be fourth because it is the Solskjaer effect and the feel-good effect of what he has done. It will probably be enough to see them in there at the end of the season, they are in an easier place than the other two. It will be very tight between them all but that is how I see it panning out.
“Although Tottenham have had a dodgy spell, football-wise they have a bit more togetherness than Arsenal and Chelsea so you can see them having enough to win their games, as well as getting the players fit such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
“Kane is a more consistent goal-scorer and I would rely upon him more than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal and Gonzalo Higuain at Chelsea.”
Chelsea FC and Arsenal booked their spots in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night.
The Blues will take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon in the top flight.
