The Reds are looking to try and win the Premier League for the first time under Jurgen Klopp and they are battling with last season’s defending champions for the title.
Liverpool FC’s goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday allowed Manchester City to move a point clear of Klopp’s men with nine games left to play.
The Merseyside outfit have suffered something of a blip in form in recent weeks and they have drawn four of their last seven Premier League games to hand the initiative to City.
And former Manchester United boss Mourinho has given his take on where Liverpool FC stand in the title race after recent results.
Speaking in an interview with beINSports, as quoted by Metro, Mourinho said: “I had that little feeling when City lost a match and Liverpool drew at home.
“When they lose one, you must win the next one. Liverpool lost a few opportunities. City lost and the next day they got the positive energy back because Liverpool drew.
“Liverpool lost the lead, City is now top of the table. They have the destiny in their hands and Liverpool lost the control.
“Two points lost here and there, they have lost a few important points to leave them in the hands of others.
“I think the psychological factor is very important. Now they have to think about others and not just themselves.
“They are thinking about two matches every weekend – their match and City’s match.”
Liverpool FC will look to get back to winning ways in the top flight when they host Burnley at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are preparing to welcome Watford to The Etihad on Saturday as they look to try and move four points clear of Klopp’s side in the title race.
