The Dutch defender has been a revelation since his move to Anfield in January 2018 and he has been a regular fixture in the first team at the Merseyside outfit.
Van Dijk has been a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up this season, and the defender has helped the Reds to have the best defensive record in the Premier League this term, having conceded just 18 times.
The 27-year-old has scored three goals and made one assist in 31 Premier League games for Liverpool FC this season to help them to lead the way at the top of the table.
And former Liverpool FC attacker Garcia has been hugely impressed by the impact Van Dijk has had at Anfield since his arrival at the club last year.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Friday, Garcia said: “Van Dijk makes it look easy.
“I think he is one of those top players that you need in your team, not only because of the way that he plays, but also because of the personality and the character he brings on the pitch.
“On the pitch he is always in the right place all the time. He’s got the tempo of the game [under control].
“Sometimes he leads from the back if he wants to go fast or go slow [and] it’s very difficult to find players like this.
“That’s why he has been so important for Liverpool this year, and of course he will be challenging this year for the title.”
Liverpool FC are currently two points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League title race but have played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s men.
They will host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in their next Premier League game after the international break on Sunday 31 March.
