Spanish media outlet Onda Cero, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Spanish club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu is set to travel to the Netherlands to continue talks with Ajax.
The same article states that FC Barcelona are determined to land the 19-year-old defender, with Bartomeu having previously confirmed the La Liga champions’ interest.
According to the same story, Premier League side Liverpool FC are weighing up a move to sign the Netherlands international at the end of the 2018-19 season.
The report adds that Serie A giants Juventus are also keen on the Dutch defender, who has been gaining a lot of attention despite the teenager’s limited experience.
De Ligt is Virgil van Dijk’s centre-half partner at international level but the Ajax defender would have to compete with the likes of Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip to become first choice at Anfield.
The Liverpool FC back-line have made drastic improvements over the past 12 months to establish themselves as having the best defensive unit in the Premier League this season.
With Van Dijk’s help, Liverpool FC have only conceded 18 times in 31 games in the Premier League this term, which amounts to three goals less than their title rivals Manchester City.
