Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Burnley
The Liverpool FC legend is backing Jurgen Klopp's side to secure a much-needed win against Burnley on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a vital win against Burnley to kick-start their title challenge on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds have endured a difficult month or so after squandering their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool FC have drawn four of their last seven Premier League games to give Manchester City the chance to reclaim top spot.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to goalless stalemates in their last two away games in the Premier League at Everton and Manchester United.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have won their last five Premier League games since a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at the end of January.
Liverpool FC did beat Watford 5-0 in their last home fixture thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi.
Former Reds defender Lawrenson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a 2-0 win over Burnley at Anfield at Sunday lunchtime.
“Crystal Palace unpicked Burnley last week but I am expecting the Clarets to be far more dogged at Anfield,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“They have got form here – they drew this fixture last season when Liverpool were left frustrated despite having 71% of frustration and 35 shots, but I think the outcome will be different this time.”
The Merseyside outfit were held to a 1-1 draw with Burnley in their last Premier League meeting at Anfield in the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title despite finishing in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds will make the trip to Germany to take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their round of 16 tie at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
