Sky Sports pundit states prediction for Liverpool FC v Tottenham
LiverpooL FC legend Phil Thompson admits Jurgen Klopp's side will need to be at their best to beat Spurs on Sunday evening
Phil Thompson has warned that Liverpool FC will need to be at their best to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday evening.
Liverpool FC will face a stern examination of their title credentials this weekend when third-placed Spurs make the trip to Merseyside.
The Reds will be in action 24 hours after Manchester City take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Klopp’s men could start their Premier League clash against Tottenham having been relegated to second place in the Premier League table.
Tottenham have lost three of their last four games following defeats by Burnley, Chelsea FC and Southampton to leave their hopes of a top-four finish in doubt.
Liverpool FC have only lost one Premier League game this season following a 2-1 defeat by defending champions Manchester City back in January.
However, Klopp’s side have drawn seven games to leave the door ajar for Pep Guardiola’s side to retain their Premier League crown.
Former Liverpool FC defender Thompson warned that the Reds will need to produce a top performance to beat Tottenham on Sunday evening.
“Spurs are always a top side. I think everyone loves the way they play the game, the way they love to build-up and they have got a top-class manager who likes to change things,” Thompson told Sky Sports News.
“Spurs are still a dangerous side at any time. They may have lost three of the last four but you know them coming to Anfield, they may not be going for the title, but they need to consolidate to play in the Champions League because they need it in that magnificent new stadium of theirs.
“They are going to be fighting for those places so it doesn’t make things any easier for Liverpool.
“I’m expecting a massive game. They have big players and the nucleus of this wonderful England side is based around Tottenham players so Liverpool are going to have to be at their best on Sunday.”
Liverpool FC were 2-1 winners against Spurs at Wembley at the start of the season to lay down an early marker in the title race.
The Reds haven’t lost a game in the Premier League at Anfield this term.
