Diego Forlan states his prediction for Man United v FC Barcelona
Former Man United striker Diego Forlan talks up their chances against FC Barcelona in the Champions League next month
Diego Forlan has talked up Manchester United’s chances of beating FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December after Manchester United suffered a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool FC.
The Red Devils were 11 points adrift of the top four when Solskjaer took over the reins, while they were written off ahead of their clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Europe.
The former Manchester United striker managed to go on a long unbeaten run in the Premier League before Arsenal became the first team to beat Solskjaer’s side in the Premier League.
The interim boss masterminded a 3-1 victory over PSG in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie to set up a quarter-final meeting with FC Barcelona earlier this month.
Retired Uruguayan striker Forlan believes Solskjaer’s side are capable of springing a surprise against FC Barcelona.
“Well they have a different game against Barcelona,” Forlan told Sky Sports. “But they are a really good team and in football you never know what’s going to happen.
“They have a really good game in front, a difficult one. But they have a great team with good players.
“United do really well at home, they could have a good possibility for elimination [of Barcelona].”
Solskjaer became the fourth Manchester United manager at Old Trafford following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
David Moyes lasted less than 11 months after he replaced Ferguson, while Louis van Gaal was replaced by Mourinho after two seasons in charge back in May 2016.
