Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: ‘Quality’ Man United star took his chance
The Manchester United manager was delighted with Romelu Lukaku's performance in a 3-1 win at Palace on Wednesday night
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Romelu Lukaku’s display in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
The Belgium international played on the left wing for most of their 0-0 draw with Liverpool FC at Old Trafford at the weekend.
Lukaku was forced to play out of position due to Marcus Rashford’s knock in the first half of the goalless stalemate.
Solskjaer started Lukaku in his preferred centre-forward role on Wednesday night and the move paid dividends.
The 25-year-old scored twice in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Roy Hodgson’s side at Selhurst Park.
Lukaku also played a role in Ashley Young’s goal to seal three points in the English capital as the Red Devils returned to winning ways.
The Belgium international has scored 10 times in 25 games in the Premier League in a stop-start season for the powerful striker.
However, Solskjaer was full of praise for the Manchester United striker after their 3-1 win at Palace.
“He was through the middle. We created chances for him, he put them away well,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“He’s done loads of running up and down the line, right wing, left wing. He’s had a different role because of Rash’s form.
“He got a chance up front. Two very good finishes, could have had another one as well earlier on, so I’m very pleased for Rom. He is a quality finisher.
“It’s great to have him around the place, always happy, always working on his finishing.
“He’s played more than you think, but he’s played wide right, wide left, so it’s Rash’s form that has moved him out there. Now with Rash’s injury he grabbed the chance.”
Lukaku will be hoping to retain his starting spot in the Manchester United team for their home clash against Southampton in their next Premier League clash on Saturday.
The Red Devils are in fifth spot in the Premier League table and a point adrift of Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
