John Barnes makes prediction about Man United next season
John Barnes has his say on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's situation at Manchester United ahead of the end of the season
John Barnes is convinced that Manchester United will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the manager’s job on a permanent basis for next season.
The Norwegian has been earning huge amounts of praise for the impact he has had at Old Trafford since he was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s interim successor back in December.
Manchester United are unbeaten in the Premier League under Solskjaer and they also reached the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Red Devils’ dramatic turnaround in form has inevitably prompted talk of Solskjaer being handed the job at Old Trafford on a permanent basis this summer.
Former Liverpool FC star and England legend Barnes has been impressed by what he has seen from the Norwegian so far, and he is expecting him to be in charge at Old Trafford at the start of next season.
“That’s the biggest difference. That’s been the situation at Liverpool. Everybody is together, as they are at Manchester United now.
“I think they will have to give Solskjaer the job to keep everybody happy and to keep the harmony there.
“But they have to be careful that it’s not going to be a Roberto Di Matteo situation after he won the Champions League with Chelsea.
“The testament of a team is when things aren’t going well, how do you respond? That is when you may need a manager who is going to shout and make people not happy.
“It’s always easy when everything is going well, but how do you respond when things don’t go well? He has that question mark.
“But at the moment, as things are going so well, I can’t see how they won’t give him the job.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United are preparing to take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they look to continue their fine form.
They are currently fourth in the table and a point ahead of Unai Emery’s Gunners side.
