Nemanja Matic has revealed that he is hoping that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will remain as Manchester United boss beyond the summer.

The Norwegian has been earning plenty of praise for the impact he has had at Old Trafford after he was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor back in December.

Solskjaer has led Manchester United up into fifth place in the Premier League table and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Manchester United have suffered some disappointing results in recent weeks after losses to Arsenal and Wolves in the Premier League and FA Cup.

However, midfielder Matic is still clearly keen to see the former Manchester United striker appointed as the club’s new manager on a permanent basis.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Matic said: “I think he is a great manager.

“But you have to say also that with Mike, Michael and Kieran, they work very well together. They work as a team. It is not only Ole.

“There are people behind him who help us. I will be happy if he stays, and I hope he will.”

Matic will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home clash against Watford.

As things stand, Manchester United are currently fifth in the table and two points behind Arsenal as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

Manchester United finished second and without a trophy under Mourinho last term.
