Rio Ferdinand couldn’t disguise his delight on Twitter following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent appointment as Manchester United manager.

Solskjaer put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Red Devils on Thursday morning to secure his long-term future at the Old Trafford outfit.

The former Norway international has led Manchester United to 10 victories in 13 games in the Premier League since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho back in December.

Solskjaer inherited Manchester United in sixth spot in the Premier League table and 11 points adrift of the top-four places.

Arsenal became the first team to beat Manchester United in the Premier League before the international break to hoist themselves above the Red Devils and into fourth spot.

Solskjaer’s side had won nine successive games on the road before the loss at Arsenal, including a brilliant 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was delighted to see his ex-Red Devils team-mate get the job on a permanent basis.

Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: “Yessss Ole is officially at The Wheel… Signed, Sealed, Delivered! Manager of @ManUtd! 🙌🏽 I hope my Thank You is in post Ole 🤣📝❤️ #MUFC #Ole”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager after his final top-flight success.

The Red Devils will take on Spanish side FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next month with a semi-final meeting against FC Porto or Liverpool FC up for grabs.
