Michael Owen described Manchester United’s performance as “frightening” as the Red Devils sealed a stunning 3-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Red Devils trailed the Ligue 1 champions 2-0 after PSG’s impressive win at Old Trafford last month.

Romelu Lukaku got the visitors off to the perfect start at Parc des Princes when he netted in the second minute after a mix-up in the home side’s defence.

However, Juan Bernat slotted home and equalised in the 12th minute to make it 1-1 on the night.

Lukaku then added his second of the evening in the 30th minute when Gianluigi Buffon spilled a shot into his path.

PSG looked to be heading into the quarter-finals as the clock ticked down on the game.

However, Marcus Rashford ended up thumping home a stoppage-time penalty after referee Damir Skomina adjudged Diogo Dalot’s shot to have struck Presnel Kimpembe on the arm with help from VAR.

Speaking to BT Sport immediately after the game, former Manchester United striker Owen said: “When this draw was made, I gave Manchester United no chance whatsoever.

“Jose Mourinho was the manager and they were playing awful football.

“What a difference a couple of months has made. The manager, the fans, the whole spirit at the club has changed in such a short period of time.

“It’s quite frightening how they’ve gone through tonight.”

Manchester United will learn their opponents in the quarter-finals when the draw takes place on 15 March.

In the meantime, the Red Devils will switch their focus back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to top-four rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
