Gary Lineker has taken to social media to wish Ole Gunnar Solskjaer luck after he was appointed as the club’s new permanent manager on Thursday.

The Norwegian was widely expected to be handed the job on a permanent basis after he was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s temporary successor back in December.

Solskjaer has led Manchester United up the Premier League table and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will face FC Barcelona next month.

His first game in charge will be a home clash against Watford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.

And England legend Lineker clearly approves of Manchester United’s decision to bring in Solskjaer as their new manager on a permanent basis.

After the news of the appointment broke on Thursday, Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Good luck to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“He was a surprising but ultimately inspired appointment and thoroughly deserves his permanent role. He’s been a breath of fresh air for @ManUtd. Well played.”

Manchester United currently find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League table and two points behind Arsenal after their 2-0 loss to the Gunners last time out.

They will be looking to try and break back into the top four before the season is out as they aim to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
