Rio Ferdinand hailed an unbelievable night for Manchester United as they secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals by coming from 2-0 down on aggregate to knock out Paris Saint-Germain.

The Red Devils headed into the game after having lost the first leg at Old Trafford last month and with it all to do at Parc des Princes.

However, Romelu Lukaku fired the visitors into an early lead in the second minute when he capitalised on a mix-up in the PSG defence.

Juan Bernat equalised for the home side in the 12th minute, but Lukaku restored the visitors’ lead on the night in the 30th minute.

It looked as though Manchester United were going out of the competition as the clock ticked down in the French capital.

However, Marcus Rashford smashed home a VAR-awarded penalty in the 94th minute after Diogo Dalot’s shot struck Presnel Kimpembe on the arm.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Red Devils legend Ferdinand could barely contain his excitement, saying: “I cant believe it.

“I didn’t have the confidence in these boys to do it. Ten first team players were out and Pogba was suspended. I just didn’t see this result coming, the way that PSG played in the first leg…

“But the characters showed by this team… Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brave with his team selection by playing young players. Unbelievable. This is what you want. This is phenomenal.”

Manchester United will now return to England in jubilant spirits before turning their attentions towards their Premier League trip to Arsenal on Sunday.
