Manchester United have seemingly been handed a boost in the race to sign Adrien Rabiot after French midfielder’s agent and mother claimed that he isn’t moving to FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The France international’s future has been a source of relentless debate over the past couple of seasons after a difficult spell for the 23-year-old at Paris Saint-Germain.

Rabiot is set to become a free agent when the French playmaker’s contract expires at the French champions at the conclusion of the 2018-19 Ligue 1 season.

The out-of-favour midfielder was reported to have agreed a deal with La Liga leaders FC Barcelona ahead of the summer, despite being regularly linked with a switch to the Premier League.

Manchester United had been heavily linked with a move to sign Rabiot before reports of a deal with FC Barcelona emerged over the past week.

But Rabiot’s agent and mother has rubbished speculation that Rabiot has already decided to move to Camp Nou at the end of the season.

“Everyone says that we have already signed with a club,” Veronique Rabiot told L’Equipe, as quoted by Metro. “But we did not sign anywhere!

“We really did not have the opportunity to worry about it. At the end of last year, I said that I would not speak with any club before 1 January.

“I have been out of this world for over two months, with all our misfortunes. There are priorities in life. They were elsewhere for us.”

Manchester United were 3-1 winners against Rabiot’s PSG team-mates in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash earlier this month.

The Red Devils will take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to win his first major trophy as Manchester United boss.
