Charlie Nicholas is backing Manchester United to sell Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window.

The Chile international is facing an uncertain future at the Old Trafford outfit following a disappointing start to his Manchester United career.

Sanchez has failed to rekindle his scintillating Arsenal form since his move to Manchester United in a swap deal back in January 2018.

Even the change of management hasn’t revive Sanchez’s fortunes, with interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reluctant to use the South American forward.

Sanchez struggled to have an impact when he came off the bench in a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and a goalless draw with Liverpool FC at Old Trafford last month.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas believes Sanchez is running out of time to save his ailing career at Manchester United.

“It’s been a shocker,” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “I watched Manchester United with interest at the weekend. Marcus Rashford played out wide of the right and when Romelu Lukaku is fit, he looks sharp.

“It looks like he’s trimmed a few pounds off him so the sharpness has returned so he’s the one that scares me, and Rashford’s pace.

“I think they’re running down the clock with Sanchez. I think he’ll be gone in the summer – that’s the reality.

“They’ll look at things and say ‘what have you done? Not very much’, and he gets injured a lot these days. You have to look at what United have got coming through and they’ve just given Martial a new deal so when he’s fit, he’ll be playing.

“Sanchez had the huff with Arsenal over a contract so what type of mood is he going to be in when he doesn’t get a game? I don’t think you hang about for that and I think Sanchez will be gone in the summer.

“They can sell him, get some money, get him off the wage bill and they can get somebody else in. It might even be a younger version.”

Sanchez has only scored five goals in 41 games in all competitions over the past 14 month or so.

The South American forward was ruled out for up to eight weeks after Sanchez was forced off with an injury in the 52nd minute of Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Southampton last weekend.

Sanchez will miss out on the chance to feature for Manchester United against Arsenal in the top-four battle at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
