The Evening Standard is reporting that the Red Devils are optimistic that a deal can be reached with the Bundesliga giants for the 18-year-old.
The same article states that Dortmund could be talked into selling Sancho if the German club receive an offer in excess of £80m for the England winger.
According to the same story, Manchester United have made Sancho one of their top targets ahead of the 2019 summer transfer window.
Sancho moved to Borussia Dortmund in a £9.1m deal from defending Premier League champions Manchester City ahed of the 2017-18 season.
The Evening Standard go on to clarify that Manchester City didn’t insert a clause in the teenager’s transfer deal that would prevent Manchester United from signing Sancho.
The England international has been one of the stars of the Bundesliga this season following an impressive return of eight goals and 12 assists in the German top flight.
Sancho has been a key part of Dortmund’s title challenge, although Bayern Munich have managed to overhaul their bitter rivals in the race for the Bundesliga crown in recent weeks.
Manchester United didn’t sign any players in the January transfer window.
