Nemanja Vidic identifies where Man United need summer signing
Man United legend Nemanja Vidic wants the Red Devils to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window
Nemanja Vidic believes that Manchester United should prioritise improving their midfield in the summer rather than signing a central defender.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign a host of different centre-halves since Manchester United missed out on an addition in the key position in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Belgium international Toby Alderweireld over the past 18 months or so but a deal has failed to come to fruition.
Victor Lindelof has made big improvements at the Old Trafford side in the 2018-19 season after the Sweden international struggled in his first campaign at the 20-time English champions.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment has helped to rekindle Chris Smalling’s form to help Manchester United become more defensively resilient at the back.
And former Manchester United defender Vidic believes that the Red Devils need to concentrate on improving their midfield rather than their defence in the summer transfer window.
“Of course, I would like to see him there,” Vidic told Stadium Astro, as quoted by the Daily Express.
“But I think the club has to have a priority.
“What I see is, if you want to be in the Champions League next season and challenge for the Premier League, you have to strengthen the midfield.
“You need that depth in the midfield area.
“In defence they already have five players, so they can rotate, and it seems like they’re doing well.”
Manchester United suffered successive defeats for the first time under Solskjaer last weekend after the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Wolves in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The Red Devils will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League last time out when Manchester United host Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday 30 March.
