Journalist: Why Paul Pogba won’t swap Man United for Real Madrid
Daily Record reporter Ian McGarry explains why Man United star Paul Pogba won't leave for Real Madrid this summer
Real Madrid will prioritise signing Neymar or Eden Hazard ahead of Paul Pogba this summer, according to Daily Record reporter Ian McGarry.
The Manchester United captain fuelled speculation about his future this week after the 26-year-old refused to rule out a move to Real Madrid in the coming seasons.
Real Madrid appointed Zinedine Zidane as their new manager earlier this month less than 12 months after the French coach stood down following their Champions League success.
Pogba, who is now a French World Cup winner like Zidane, has been touted as a potential signing for los Blancos to add more bite and power to their midfield.
The Manchester United record signing has managed to return to form over the past few months since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as interim manager.
Pogba has scored 11 goals and has made nine assists to help Manchester United challenge for a top-four finish despite a poor start to the season.
Daily Record journalist McGarry ruled out Real Madrid prioritising Pogba’s signature in the summer transfer window.
“I think it’s a pipe dream. Neymar is their top target and Eden Hazard is their second choice. [And] they’ve got ideas about David De Gea,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.
“I don’t see Pogba being a major target for Real Madrid this summer. The recruitment has to be to replace Ronaldo and give support to a main front three. It’ll be up front they recruit.”
Pogba was suspended for Manchester United’s impressive 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
The Red Devils signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
