Luke Shaw admits Man United were ‘awful’ against Watford
Luke Shaw has his say on Man United's below-par display in their 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday
Luke Shaw has admitted that Manchester United were “awful” in their Premier League clash with Watford and said they were lucky to get a 2-1 win.
The Red Devils secured victory in their first game since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as manager on a permanent basis on Thursday.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 28th minute at Old Trafford, before Anthony Martial made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.
Abdoulaye Doucoure scored a late goal for the visitors to set up a tense finale, but the Red Devils held on to claim all three points and move into fourth place in the Premier League table.
The victory was somewhat harsh on Watford, who dominated possession for large periods in both halves.
And Manchester United defender Shaw conceded that the Red Devils were far from at their best on Saturday at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport after the game, Shaw said: “We made it harder with the way we played. There were times when we weren’t at our best.
“We were awful in the second half, we were lucky with the result. The most important thing is the three points.
“We had a few chances but we didn’t take them. We need to get ourselves together again and focus on Wolves. We want to go there and get the win.
“I’m always confident when Rashford’s in front of goal, he likes to get in behind, it was a great finish and great composure.
“We need to forget about the game today because we were not at our best at all.
“We feel really good and confident, and fully trust Ole, and we’re looking forward to working with him for the years to come.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Tuesday 2 April when they travel to Wolves looking to keep up their push for a top-four finish in the top flight.
