Unai Emery salutes Arsenal summer signing after Tottenham display
Unai Emery was delighted by Sokratis Papastathopoulos's display for Arsenal against Tottenham
Unai Emery has reserved special praise for Sokratis Papastathopoulos after the defender produced an impressive performance in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.
The defender has been settling into life at The Emirates since having signed from Borussia Dortmund last summer shortly after the appointment of Emery as the club’s new boss.
The 30-year-old has been in good form for the north London side in recent weeks and he has now made 19 Premier League appearances for Arsenal this term.
He was particularly solid as he helped Arsenal to battle to a 1-1 draw at Wembley in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
And speaking after the game, Arsenal boss Emery underlined his satisfaction at the way Sokratis has been adapting to life in the Premier League since his move.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday at Wembley, Emery said: “His progress is very important for this performance and I think today he played well.
“But in the last matches he is coming with his best confidence in himself, for using his skills and his capacity to help us and he has experience to continue improving his progress with us, like today.”
Arsenal will return to Europa League action on Thursday night when they take on Rennes in the last 16.
They are aiming to try and break back into the top four before the season is out as they look to try and secure Champions League qualification for the first time in two years.
The Gunners will take on Manchester United at The Emirates in their next Premier League game on 10 March.
