Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that Arsenal are frontrunners to sign the World Cup winner at the end of the season.
The same article states that Unai Emery is an admirer of the French defender after the Arsenal manager publicly praised the FC Barcelona star.
According to the same story, Arsenal’s bitter rivals Manchester United remain interested in the France international as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to revamp his squad.
The Italian media source add that AS Roma could rival the Premier League duo for Umtiti’s signature should Greece international Kostas Manolas leave Rome this summer.
Umtiti has started a mere 11 games in La Liga this season, while the French centre-half has made one appearance from the bench.
The former Lyon defender has only made one appearance in Europe this term and Umtiti didn’t feature in either leg of FC Barcelona’s 4-0 aggregate victory over Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Arsenal are in fourth place and two points ahead of Manchester United in the race to secure the final Champions League qualifying spot.
The Gunners were 1-0 winners against Watford on Monday night.
