Unai Emery has revealed that he has been delighted by Mesut Ozil’s recent form for Arsenal.

The German playmaker was named as the man of the match as he helped Arsenal to claim a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at The Emirates last week and keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Ozil seemingly initially struggled to win over Emery following the Spaniard’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in the summer of last year.

However, his performances of late have earned him a regular spot in the starting line-up for the Gunners.

And Arsenal boss Emery has now revealed that he has been delighted by the way Ozil has been performing for the Gunners in recent games.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Emery said: “Yes. Yes.

“He is working very well and playing well. He is helping us. I am very happy with him.

“Now in the team we have a good atmosphere, good spirit. Each player is helping us with his quality and good behaviour. This is the spirit I want. They are doing that and Mesut is also.”

Ozil will be hoping to start for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The north London side know that a victory over the Toffees would move them back into third place in the Premier League table with six games left to play this season.

Arsenal finished sixth and without a trophy in the top flight in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge last year.
