Mesut Ozil could not hide his delight at seeing Arsenal move above Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table on Monday night.

The Germany playmaker was named as the man of the match as the Gunners claimed a 2-0 win over Newcastle United thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette in either half.

Ozil was in fine form for the Gunners and was instrumental in their victory over the Magpies in front of their home fans.

The win lifted Arsenal above their bitter local rivals Tottenham in the Premier League table after Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool FC at Anfield on Sunday.

And Ozil looked like a happy man after having helped to inspire Arsenal to a 2-0 win over Newcastle on Monday night.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports after Monday night’s game, Ozil said: “Our aim is to be in the top four so of course we are happy to be in front of [Tottenham].

“You know [laughing]… there’s always competition with them.”

Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Everton in the top flight.

The north London side are aiming to try and finish in the top four this season for the first time in two years as they seek Champions League qualification.

They will take on Napoli in the Europa League quarter-finals, starting next week.
