Arsene Wenger is tipping Patrick Vieira to become Arsenal manager one day.

The former France midfielder flourished under Wenger and was captain of the Arsenal team that went unbeaten in the Premier League in the 2003-04 season.

Wenger stood down as Arsenal boss last summer and was replaced by Spaniard Unai Emery, who is aiming to guide the Gunners to a top-four finish in the Premier League this season – as well as Europa League glory.

Vieira is currently in charge of French side Nice as he continues to gain managerial experience at the top level.

And former Arsenal boss Wenger seems to think that Vieira would be a good manager for the Gunners in the future.

Speaking in an interview with French television, as quoted by Metro, Wenger said: “I see him more as Arsenal manager one day [than as the French national team coach].

“Because he is too young to go directly into a national team. I think that his life will be spent on the club side.”

Arsenal suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat by Crystal Palace at home on Sunday to dent their hopes of finishing in the top four.

The north London side will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they travel to Wolves looking to bounce back to winning ways and reignite their hopes of Champions League qualification.

Arsenal finished sixth in the Premier League table and without a trophy in Wenger’s final season in charge at the club.
