BBC Sport pundit gives his prediction for Cardiff v Liverpool FC
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Liverpool FC's trip to Cardiff City in the Premier League on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Liverpool FC to keep their Premier League title bid on track by beating Cardiff City 2-0 in Wales on Sunday.
The Reds head into this weekend’s round of fixture top of the Premier League table and two points ahead of Manchester City, having played a game more than The Citizens.
Liverpool FC booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals in style on Wednesday night when they claimed a 4-1 win over FC Porto to reach the last four.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s men will now switch their focus firmly back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester City have the chance to move ahead of Liverpool FC if they beat Tottenham Hotspur at The Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
But former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is fully expecting to see the Reds claim all three points and keep their place at the top of the table this weekend.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Cardiff will be competitive, especially at home, but at the moment Liverpool just seem to be able deal with whoever they are up against.
“I was impressed by the way Jurgen Klopp’s side put Chelsea away on Sunday and they never looked like slipping up against Porto on Wednesday.
“Can the Reds win the Champions League?”
Well, get past Barcelona and they have got a heck of a chance… but Lionel Messi will have something to say about that, won’t he?
Liverpool FC will take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals as they aim to reach the showpiece for the second season running.
The Reds were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in last year’s final.
