Paul Merson gives his prediction for Cardiff v Liverpool FC
The Arsenal legend is tipping Liverpool FC to ease past Cardiff in Wales on Sunday afternoon
Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool FC to ease to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Cardiff City in Wales on Sunday.
The Reds will make the trip to the Welsh capital fresh from a resounding 4-1 victory over FC Porto in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Liverpool FC will take on Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final but the Merseyside outfit have some vital games to take care of in the Premier League.
The title run-in starts with their clash against Cardiff as Liverpool FC will look to reclaim top spot should Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur at The Etihad on Sunday.
Klopp’s men have won their last five Premier League games, while their 13-game unbeaten run stretches back to their 2-1 loss to Manchester City at Eastlands in January.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Liverpool FC to beat Cardiff in Wales on Sunday afternoon.
“This will be a battle for Liverpool, make no mistake about it,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“That was a huge football match for Cardiff to win the other night at Brighton, and they will now be fighting for every single minute.
“It didn’t look like they were going to get there, but they have done so well to get to this point.
“Liverpool, though, are on fire. They will take some stopping and just have too much quality for Cardiff. Should Cardiff score it will make things interesting, but I just cannot see it happening.”
Liverpool FC are looking to win their first major trophy under Klopp following the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s appointment back in October 2015.
The Reds have never won the Premier League title but have finished in second place on three previous occasions in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
Liverpool FC have managed to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the second successive seasons under Klopp.
