Maurizio Sarri has said that Danny Drinkwater is not part of his plans at Chelsea FC this season.

The 29-year-old midfielder has not played a single game this season and he has not featured for the Blues since a substitute appearance in the Community Shield back in August.

Drinkwater was charged with drink-driving this week following an incident in the early hours of Monday morning in Cheshire.

It remains to be seen whether the England international will make a first-team appearance this season, but Sarri seems to have indicated that the former Leicester City star is not part of his plans at all.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Sarri said: “He has never played because he is not suitable to my system and to my way of playing.

“I told him everything in August. He appreciated but he decided to remain and so he knew very well the situation.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Anfield to take on table-toppers Liverpool FC.

The Blues are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they seek Champions League qualification for next season, after they finished fifth and won the FA Cup with Antonio Conte in charge.

Chelsea FC will take on Slavia Prague in the return leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash at Stamford Bridge next Thursday night.
