Olivier Giroud has admitted that he is not happy about his lack of playing time at Chelsea FC this season.

The France international has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season since Maurizio Sarri’s appointment last summer.

Giroud has only started seven Premier League games this season, and competition for a place in the team at Stamford Bridge intensified after the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain in the January transfer window.

Nevertheless, the former Arsenal striker has shown his ability when called upon this season, and he had netted 11 times in all competitions before Thursday night’s clash with Slavia Prague in the Europa League.

However, the 32-year-old has now hinted that he may seek a move away from Chelsea FC this summer if he is unable to hold down a regular spot in the first team at the club.

Speaking at a news conference at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, Giroud said: “I really want to play more. I’m not happy to play the second role. That’s why I said next year I will need to have a more important role to play in the team.

“I have had offers from other clubs, but I cannot tell you [who]. My priority is Chelsea. With what I have achieved here, there is no reason they are not going to give one more year, but I want to be happy also.

“The most important thing for me is to enjoy the game, be happy on the pitch and to have more minutes. I am a competitor. Trust me, I am very frustrated when I’m not on the pitch, but I don’t want to show it.

“When you are a competitor and you have been through difficulties through your career, you need to keep that frustration for you and transform it into positive energy on the pitch.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Monday night when they host Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are currently fifth as they look to break back into the top four spots before the season is out.
