Ross Barkley issues challenge for Chelsea FC team-mates
Ross Barkley says Chelsea FC are firmly focused on finishing in the top four this season
Ross Barkley is challenging Chelsea FC to finish in the top four this season.
The Blues came from a goal down in the second half to beat Cardiff City 2-1 in Wales on Sunday afternoon in controversial circumstances.
The win handed Maurizio Sarri’s men an important three points as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
However, the Blues remain in sixth place and with an uphill task in front of them to try and finish in the top four this season as they aim to qualify for the Champions League.
Barkley will be hoping to be a regular fixture in the Chelsea FC team between now and the end of the season, and the England international admits that he and his team-mates now have their sights firmly set on sealing a top-four finish.
Barkley told Chelsea FC’s website: “I had a good week away with England, two positive results and I got a couple of goals, and now I’m looking forward to a strong end of the season with Chelsea.
“We’re looking up the table. Our last result against Everton, we performed really well in the first half but we dropped off in the second.
“We’ve had a 10-day break since our last game, so we’re looking forward to playing Cardiff and then with the right approach hopefully we can get back to winning ways and force our way up the table.
“That’s our target now. We’ve got to go on a winning streak, so we’ve got to take one game at a time.
“We’ll be working hard on it on the training pitch to approach each game with the right frame of mind.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The Blues will take on Slavia Prague in the Europa League quarter-finals later this month, with the competition offering another potential route into next season’s Champions League.
Chelsea FC finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup last season under Antonio Conte.
