Maurizio Sarri has insisted that Chelsea FC will be able to fight for the top honours in the coming seasons despite their stuttering recent form.

The Blues have struggled to produce consistent form in the Premier League this season following Sarri’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in July last year.

The west London side currently face an uphill struggle to try and break back into the top four this term as Sarri looks to steer the Blues into next season’s Champions League.

Chelsea FC fans made their discontent heard on Sunday as the Blues laboured to a 2-1 win over Cardiff City in the Premier League to keep their top-four hopes alive.

And Sarri feels that his young team simply need more time to adapt as they look to hit top gear under the Italian manager.

Speaking at a news conference before Wednesday’s clash with Brighton, Sarri said: “I don’t know [why the fans are not happy].

“Probably we started very well, so our fans thought everything was very easy for us. It wasn’t true.

“If you take a coach with my characteristics you have to work and improve day by day, week by week. In the future we will be able to fight for the top.

“We have a lot of young players who can improve a lot in the future: Callum [Hudson-Odoi], Ruben [Loftus-Cheek], [Andreas] Christensen.

“If they are able to improve we will be able to improve as a team.”

Chelsea FC will host West Ham United at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League game on Monday night.

The Blues will then take on Slavia Prague in the Europa League quarter-finals as they look to make it through to the last four of Europe’s second tier club competition.
