Arsene Wenger believes that the Chelsea FC team lack pace under Maurizio Sarri this season.

The Blues have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League this term since Sarri was brought in as the club’s new manager last summer.

Chelsea FC, however, are now in pole position to claim a top-four finish in the Premier League after the Blues earned a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

That result left the west London club in fourth place in the table and knowing that two more wins would secure their spot in the top four and the Champions League for next season.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger believes that Sarri has done OK in his first season in England, but he feels that the Blues lack pace in certain areas of their squad.

Speaking to beIN Sports on Sunday, Wenger said: “For Sarri it is his first season in England

“He certainly likes a game with possession his team has good possession but they lack goals.

“If you compare the possession they have – always in every game around 70 per cent – and the number of goals they score, I think they have not enough players who are going behind defenders.

“They don’t have enough pace to take advantage. Eden Hazard has to come deep to make the difference on his own sometimes.”

Chelsea FC are in Europa League action on Thursday night when they take on Frankfurt in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

The Blues are aiming to win the competition knowing that it could offer them another route into next season’s Champions League if they do miss out on a top four finish.

Chelsea FC finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Antonio Conte last term.
