Paul Merson reveals his prediction for Chelsea FC v West Ham
Paul Merson looks ahead to Chelsea FC's clash with West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday night
Paul Merson is backing Chelsea FC to keep alive their bid to finish in the top four this season by beating West Ham United 3-0 on Monday night.
The Blues are aiming to try and finish in the top four this season in what is Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign in charge of the west London club.
Sarri was brought in as the club’s new manager last summer after the west London side finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Antonio Conte last term.
Chelsea FC have been in better form in recent weeks and they have won their last two games against Cardiff City and Brighton.
The Blues currently find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League table and level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal having played a game more than the Gunners.
And former Arsenal star Merson is not expecting to see Chelsea FC have any problems when they host their London rivals West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “Nothing but a Chelsea win here.
“West Ham are on the beach a bit as they are safe and going nowhere. They were very fortunate against Huddersfield when they won 4-3, that papered over the cracks, and then they got found out against Everton and if it wasn’t for Fabianski it could have been any score.
“I thought Chelsea were very good against Brighton, it’s probably the best I have seen them play in a long time.
“I expect Chelsea to win comfortably, but how many will be thinking about their Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday? Especially the manager as he hasn’t won anything.
“Coming fourth in the league won’t make a difference to him but winning the Europa is massive, so it will be interesting to see how he sets up.
“He has an excuse with his team selection because he could turn around and say he is looking at Thursday. If you were him that’s what you would be looking at. I think they might play their strongest team on Thursday.”
Chelsea FC will take on Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, starting next week.
The Blues could qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the competition this term.
