Mark Lawrenson believes that Everton will damage Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four with a home win at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners will make the long trip to Merseyside this weekend in pursuit of a sixth victory in their last seven Premier League games.

Unai Emery’s side are in fourth position and ahead of Chelsea FC thanks to their superior goal difference.

Arsenal have played one game less than Chelsea FC, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League campaign.

If the north London side can win their game in hand, Emery’s men could hoist themselves above third-placed Spurs and establish a two-point lead.

However, former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is anticipating that Arsenal will struggle against Everton and slump to a seventh Premier League defeat of the season.

“Arsenal’s home form is outstanding which is why they are in the Champions League places, but they are not great on the road – their away record is only the 10th best in the top flight,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“This is a big test for the Gunners. Everton have done well of late and they have got the bit between their teeth at the moment.

“In the second half of their last home game – a 2-0 win over Chelsea – they looked wired in to what they needed to do.

“The Toffees fans will demand the same again and, if the players can produce a repeat performance, I think they will win.”

Chelsea FC suffered a 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park last month to damage their top-four hopes.

Emery is on course to achieve his goal of leading Arsenal back into the Champions League in his first season in charge.

The Spanish head coach took over the reins from Arsene Wenger last summer after the Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal will take on Napoli for a place in the Europa League semi-finals.
