Jamie Carragher paid credit to VAR after Sadio Mane was retrospectively awarded a goal in Liverpool FC’s 4-1 victory over FC Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds made the trip to Portugal for the second leg of their quarter-final after Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners at Anfield last week.

Mane has been in red hot form for Liverpool FC over the past couple of months and the Senegal international netted in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Chelsea FC.

The 27-year-old continued his prolific form with the opening goal in the first half of the second leg when he managed to get on the end of Mo Salah’s shot.

The official initially ruled out the goal due to offside before the referee awarded Mane his eighth goal in 10 games thanks to VAR.

Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk all scored in the second half to seal the win despite Eder Militão’s consolation goal.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher took to Twitter to praise both Mane and VAR as Jurgen Klopp’s side booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Carragher wrote on Twitter: “VAR at its best! 8 in 10 games the opening goal for Mane!!”

Liverpool FC will take on FC Barcelona for a place in their second successive Champions League final.

Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho will both return to Anfield.
